Check out these big advancement’s in Digit’s development

We’ve hit some major milestones in the development of Digit. On the technical side, we’ve been stretching the existing understanding of controls to expand Digit’s mechanical capabilities. Capabilities such as being able to help with sorting, picking up, moving, and placing totes or boxes in warehouses.

More recently, we created an arm prototype that can be used for lifting boxes, or turning a door handle and opening a door. And we created a charging dock prototype so that Digit can easily recharge its batteries.

Other accomplishments in terms of Digit’s new warehouse abilities include:

-Robust manipulation, including tote manipulation

-Package palletizing

-Box volume estimation

One of our goals is for Digit to autonomously deliver packages to your doorstep. This means that Digit must be able to encounter unexpected, unstructured terrain during its delivery journeys and adjust accordingly. This means having the ability to go up stairs, step down from a curb, ascend or descend a sloped hillside, or move across sandy or loose soil.

In this area, we’ve made big strides, literally. Digit’s new physical abilities include:

-Curb steps and jumping

-Fast locomotion

-Walking backward

Navigating environments requires advanced technological capabilities. Digit is equipped with two sets of computer vision – a set of depth sensors to give the robot a sense of surface planes in the immediate vicinity, which allows Digit to know where it’s able to step or pick something up, as well as a lidar sensor which provides wider range of perception to help Digit map its environment.

In this area, we’ve made big advancements in:

-GPS and autonomous navigation

-Terrain mapping

-Robust perceptive locomotion

-Package delivery simulation

Even we are amazed by all that we’ve accomplished!
